Abstract (EN)
Transmitting emotions, thoughts, and ideas from person to person is possible through communication. Narrative emerges through written and oral communication, and it is passed down from generation to generation. Narrative serves as a means of transferring knowledge, emotions, experiences, and expertise between societies. Each society contributes to this transmission task within its own realm of thought and cultural accumulation. Literary texts, which are one of the mediums for transmitting narratives, reflect the expressive forms of the culture they belong to. This form of expression, defined as discourse, only comes into existence through the narrator. The concept of discourse gains meaning in conjunction with the narrative structure that contributes to the connection between narrative and narrator. In his work titled "The Narrative Discourse: An Essay on Method," published in 1972, Gérard Genette examines concepts such as narrative, narrator, narrative structure, and time in the light of discourse. Genette's work, which establishes its own terminology, takes its place as a fundamental building block in the field of study of the concept of "narratology," first used by Tzvetan Todorov in 1969, and it still maintains its relevance. When crafting his works, Attilâ İlhan, a writer who approaches events from different perspectives, attempts to maintain the dynamism in the narrative, and successfully draws readers in with his creativity in language and style. İlhan's novels can be analyzed according to Genette's terminology. In this context, İlhan's novels were examined in accordance with Genette's narratology studies. In the first section of the study, the narrative segments of the novels were identified, and evaluations were made regarding their beginning and ending situations. Narrative modes and narrative levels were determined, and relevant observations were made. In the second section of the study, narrator types, narrator's functions, perspectives, and types, as well as narrative temporality, were determined to reveal the connections within the novels. The purpose of this study, prepared based on Genette's analyses, is to convey to the reader that literary texts are open to multifaceted readings, and to contribute to the world of science by demonstrating the existence of different interpretations and perspectives in light of narratology. Keywords: Narrative, narratology, typology, Attilâ İlhan, novel.
