Abstract (EN)
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) has been successfully applied for many years to eliminate the symptoms and prevent the disease progression and complications secondary to BPH. On the other hand, there are no parameters considered to be treatment efficacy or success. And also, there are no proven peroperative parameters that could predict TUR-P success. In this study, we aimed to evaluate TUR-P treatment efficacy by evaluating the postoperative benefit rates and the various parameters that might be related to postoperative benefit in TUR-P patients and to investigate whether the parameters that can be predicted can be achieved. Our study included 100 patients who underwent TUR-P in Ege University Medical Faculty Urology Department between July 2015 and July 2016, and the patients were evaluated retrospectively. Preoperative prostate volume (PV), IPSS, Qmax and PVR values and resected prostate tissue weights (RTW) were recorded. Patients were re-evaluated at postoperative six weeks to six months and statistical analyzes were performed. It was determined that the decrease in IPSS was 11.41 (53.4%), the increase in Qmax was 11.14 ml / sec (110%) and the decrease in PVR was 59.65 ml (59%). The decrease in IPSS was statistically significantly greater in patients with preoperative IPSS ≥ 20, preoperative Qmax ≤ 10 ml / sec and PVR> 100 ml, and the increase in Qmax and the decrease in PVR in patients with preoperative PVR> 100 ml were statistically significant found more. Patients with prostate volume> 50 ml and patients with RTW / PW ≤ 0.3 had a statistically significant decrease in PVR. Preoperative IPSS and PVR were found to be statistically higher in these patients when the characteristics of the patients with an increase in postoperative IPSS of 10 and above and Qmax of 10 ml / sec and above were examined. There was no significant relationship between decrease in IPSS and increase in Qmax and age, RTW, PV, RTW / PV and preoperative Qmax. In conclusion, we believe that the clearer data that may be associated with TUR-P treatment efficacy may lead clinicians on patient follow-up and treatment selection, and that more studies should be done in this regard.
