Abstract (EN)
The immigration phenomenon, which mainly involves the change of place, is the result of economic, political, social and geographical events. International migration is an important phenomenon affecting both sending and receiving countries. After the Second World War migrant workers had major contribute to the restructring of many Europan countries. However, due to the economic crises that were going on in the future, the recruitment of migrant workers was stopped. This time the European Union has faced intense refugee movements. Due to a significant destination for migrants European Union's immigration policy has developed in the EU-level associations. Because Turkey had sent migrant workers to European countries for many years, Turkey had been perceived as a traditional emigrant country. However, since the 1980s, refugee and irregular migration movements to Turkey has brought Turkey to both a target and a transit country. Immigration policies have become an important issue in Turkey's EU candidacy process. The EU stipulated that migration policies in Turkey should be harmonized with EU migration policies. In 2013, Turkey adopted Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection in order to adapt to EU migration policies.
