Abstract (EN)

In the current economic environment, human capital is recognised by bothcountries and by business organisations as a key engine for growth andcompetitiveness. Many transition economies acknowledge that small andmedium sized enterprises are crucial for stimulating entrepreneurial skills,providing a very significant share of overall employment and contributing toemployment growth at a higher rate than larger firms in the long term. Apartfrom having those positive characteristics, SMEs operate in the process ofindustrial restructuring and exporting directly to foreign markets.Nevertheless SMEs have major obstacles to the further development. Forinstance, life long education and high qualified people have begun to dropbehind due to avoiding to hire experts for solving the problems or deficiencyof collecting and evaluating the market informations. On the contrary,development policies have been regenerated in some big enterprisesdepending on the alteration of the managers? knowledge.First of all the relationship between education level, employmentperformance and productivity in Turkey?s workforce market takes place as amain subject of this thesis. Furthermore strengths and weaknesses ofTurkish SMEs in terms of training programmes within the process of theintegration into the European Union are mentioned. From these aspects ofthis study, some comprehensive information is given about some pointswhich needed to emphasize for developing SMEs.
