Abstract (EN)

This comprehensive study is conducted with the aim of thoroughly examining the sculptural artifacts discovered in the ancient city of Ay Hanum and the influence of Hellenistic art on the artworks from Tillya Tepe (Golden Hill) from artistic, cultural, and social perspectives. Initially, the significance of the topic, research methodology, and relevant literature are introduced, followed by an investigation of Ay Hanum's geographical location, historical background, cultural-political structure, and its role in artistic productions and handicrafts. The sculptures, reliefs, and decorative elements unearthed from Ay Hanum and Tillya Tepe (Golden Hill) "shaped within the framework of Baktriyen art influenced by the Hellenistic style "are analyzed in detail based on materials, manufacturing techniques, and iconography. Among these, mythological statues such as Zeus, Heracles, Aphrodite, and Dionysus; portraits of local elites and figures connected to imperial powers; as well as sculptures with public, ritual, and funerary functions are examined, clearly illustrating the artistic diversity of Ay Hanum. Typological and stylistic analyses identify periodical differences, and the sculptural heritage of Ay Hanum is evaluated comparatively with other ancient cities within the context of local and external influences. Furthermore, the social role of these artifacts, their place in determining social status, and the examination of patron institutions and individuals illuminate the social dimension of sculptural art. In conclusion, the study assesses its overall findings, presents new insights into the sculpture art of Ay Hanum, highlights the significance of this cultural heritage, and opens new horizons for future research. It emphasizes that a more precise and comprehensive understanding of this art can play a crucial role in better comprehending the culture, society, and political history of the region.
