Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the effect of smartphone addiction on time management and academic success among students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Balıkesir University. The population of the research consists of university students enrolled in the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Balıkesir University during the 2023-2024 academic year. The sample consists of 200 students selected by random selection method. Data collection tools used in the study include a personal information form, the Short Form of the Smartphone Addiction Scale (ATBÖ-KF), and the Time Management Scale (ZYÖ). The data collected in the study were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 software. Descriptive statistics, such as arithmetic mean, frequency, standard deviation, and percentage values, were examined in the analysis of the research data. A normality test was conducted to determine whether the research data followed a normal distribution. The values for skewness and kurtosis were checked, and for both scales, these values were found to be between -2 and +2. Therefore, the research data were considered to show a normal distribution, and parametric tests were applied for group comparisons based on demographic information and for determining the relationships between scales. For group comparisons of demographic variables, the Independent Samples t-test was used for pairwise comparisons, One-Way ANOVA was used for multiple comparisons, and Tukey's post-hoc test was applied. To determine the relationship between students' smartphone addiction levels and their time management levels, Pearson correlation analysis was performed. According to the findings of the research, it can be seen that smartphone addiction has a negative impact on academic performance. It can be concluded that smartphone usage among university students not only affects their mental health and learning attitudes but also significantly impacts their future academic success, academic emotions, and academic participation.
