Abstract (EN)
After the renovation actions led by Mahmut II, Tanzimat which was executed by the intellectuals who all knew Europe very well, with the leadership of Mustafa Resit Pasa, one of the Ottoman Statesmen, is accepted as one of the milestones in Ottoman renewal history. It brought deep and radical changes in Ottoman life. This process which created differences in administrative and military regime as well as in the social life, brought a lot of diversity in the architectural aspect too. In the buildings of Tanzimat period, we can see considerable changes in terms of the blueprint, construction material, and the sense of style. The developments lived in bureaucracy thanks to the Tanzimat, brought the need of new kinds of administrative buildings. It was supported the individuals to have their own capital and thus to produce private buildings. In order to protect the wooden districts destroyed by the fires, it was aimed to extend the stonework construction. The architectural style preferred by the reformists who were determined to spread all over the world, was the Neoclassical architectural style which was reflected as a universal language in the application field all over the world that assumed Europe as an example. Another function of those buildings was to represent the idea of Tanzimat and the determination of change. The building which Mustafa Resit Pasa got Architect Gaspare Trajano Fossati to build as a summer house in Baltalimanı is a building worth to study thoroughly. Accepted as the first stonework seaside palace, Baltalimanı Seaside Palace started a new era which established stonework seaside palaces by being a resource for the following applications. Today, the building used as Baltalimanı Metin Sabancı Orthopedics Training and Research Hospital, has gone thorough some changes. The seaside Palace started to be used as a summer house by the palace residents, remained empty for a while during the Republic Period, and then was granted to the Fishing Institute. The building gone through some modifications concerning the users? variety and needs, still keeps its character and architectural value. Both with its historical place and architectural value, that building which needs to be studied and protected is the topic of this work Keywords: Tanzimat¸ Baltalimanı Resit Pasa Seaside Palace, Gaspare Trajano Fossati.
