Prof. Bayram ÖZBEYJuly 2005, 171 pagesBanks in Turkey faced financial problems as a result of the economic crisisof 1994. The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) was constructedto overcome these problems and it undertook important studies to improve thebanking system. In order to find out whether these studies are effective or not wedecided to study the supervision problems of banks and functions of the bankingregulation and supervision agency. The issues concerning banking conventions andlaws were tackled within the framework of the study. As a part of the study, relevantcourt decisions and annual reports of the banking sector and the contributions of theBanking Regulation and Supervision Agency to the sector were examined.Key words: The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, Inspection, Bank
