Abstract (EN)

Beyond aesthetic satisfaction, The art inspires viewers to ponder question, and react through visuals. Images allow art to become more than just an object of observation by offering the audience with a visual feast of the artist's feelings, ideas, and dreams. This circumstance represents a process where the artist uses a language beyond words to communicate his or her inner world and perspective. In this study, the evolution of the tree image and its development in parallel with the general cultural and aesthetic evolution of art were examined. The tree image appears as a versatile motif in the painting. By using this image, artists have expressed the beauties of nature, man's relationship with nature, and the effects of time or environmental concerns. The Tree has been used in painting not only as an object but also as a representation tool loaded with deep meanings and symbols. When we consider the image of trees in pre-modern Western painting, starting with medieval painting, we see that it was generally used to represent religious teachings. In pre-modern times, the tree image was handled by the artists of the period in a way that reflected the characteristics of the period. Although there are differences between periods, the topics are generally close to each other. Modernist painters moved away from traditional depictions of nature by generally handling the tree image with techniques such as abstraction, geometricization or stylization. In addition to using trees as objects of nature, painters can utilize them to highlight particular aspects of their paintings, such as color, form, and texture. Some modernist painters may use trees not just as formal components, but also for emotional or symbolic implications. In this context the tree added deep meaning to the artists' works through both religious and natural symbols and allowed them to interact with the audience.
