Comparison of Battalname Epic and Battal Gazi films on type and motif axis

Epics are literary works that reflect the histories, national values, social and cultural lives of nations. The epics, which are about wars, migrations and natural disasters, which have left deep traces in the public imagination, have a very important place in Turkish culture. After the Turks became Muslims, religious epics were formed. One of the subjects in the epics that emerged after Islam is the Islamization and Turki fication of Anatolia. In our study, Battal Gazî Epic, which is one of the epics told in line with these subjects and tells the gazâvats of Battal Gazî, has been evaluated. It is also know by names such as Battal Gazî Epic, Menakıb-ı Gazâvat-ı Seyyid Battal Gazî, Stori Seyyit Battal Gazî, Seyyit Battal Gazî Legends, books Battal Gazî. Seyyit Battal Gazî is an Arab commander who gained fame with his heroism in the war of the Umayyads against Byzantium in the eight th century. In some rumors, it is stated that Battal Gazî lived in the Anatolian area, around Malatya. The nickname of Seyyit Battal Gazî, who is known to live in the Anatolian area, is mentioned as Battal, which means valiant, courageous, and great in all sources. In this study, Battal Gazî Epic, which deals with the struggles of Battal Gazî, and Battal Gazî Movies, which were scripted based on this epic and starring Cüneyt Arkın, which was translated in the 1970s, will be compared in terms of type and motif. These films belong to the period called Yeshilcham period in Turkish cinema. In the study, first of all, Battal Gazî Epic was evaluated on the axis of type and motif, then the films mentioned were evaluated in the axis of type and motif.
