Abstract (EN)
House flies (Musca domestica L.) belonged to Diptera ordo are holometabolous insects and widely distributed in worldwide. The existence and spread of house flies are directly affected by human activities. House flies has intensively observed in areas such as animal farms, dunghills and garbage dumps. In a particular, the rapid increase in the human population and global warming, the incidence and population densities of house flies are gradually increasing throughout the year. House flies are vectors of several diseases like tuberculosis, cholera and dysentery. Also, they reduce the yield of meat and milk by causing stress in animals, when the food poisoning and their intensity increase in livestock farms. The method of applying synthetic pyrethroids and neonicotinoids to surfaces with thermal and cold fogging is frequently used in the management of house flies, especially adults. Due to the fact that house flies are also commonly found in agricultural and animal husbandry areas, the use of pesticides for protection of public health as well as for prevention of agricultural and forest pests trigger the development of resistance, making it difficult to combat these pests. This situation has prompted scientists and pesticide companies to seek alternative management methods. In this thesis, it is aimed to reveal the chemosterilant effects of insects growth regulators which generally used as larvicide by examining egg production egg, area index and transition rates from egg to adult stage after feeding house fly adults. In the scope of the thesis, diflubenzuron and pyriproxyfen were used as insect growth regulators. The chemosterilant effects of newly hatched, 1,3 and 5 day old adult unmated flies belongs to six different populations in Türkiye (Antalya, Bursa, Edirne, Gaziantep, İzmir and WHO) were investigated by giving the solution which contain 40% sugar and 5% and 10% concentrations of insect growth regulators. Based on the data obtained in the thesis results, egg production in all populations reduced by 80% on average as a statistically significant when compared to the control group. Besides, the eggs gain from the application groups and the control were inoculated into the media to examine the egg yields and the adult transition rates of the F2 generation. Although insect growth regulators generally reduced the area index of eggs obtained from exposed adults compared to control, they had no effect on the transition from egg to adult. Within the scope of this study, 50 eggs obtained from F2 individuals from the Izmir Population treated with 5% pyriproxyfen were inoculated into the medium. When the results were examined, it was determined that 5 of them became adults and gave a total of 69 eggs. When the transition rates from egg to adult were examined, it was observed that none of the 69 eggs hatched. In the WHO population treated with 5% diflubenzuron, it was determined that the eggs obtained from 1-day-old F2 individuals passed into the larval form, but died within 1 day. In the Antalya population, it was determined that F2 adults, who were administered 5% pyriproxyfen for 1 day and 10% pyriproxyfen for 3 days, didn't lay eggs. Nowadays, the increasing problem of resistance has led to the prominence of chemosterilants as an alternative control method. Since it is the first study in this field in our country, it is expected that this study will lead to future studies.
