Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted to determine the propagation methods via seed and cuttings of some deciduous and evergreen shrubs, during 2007-2009 periods. Mock privet (Phillyrea latifolia L.), terebinth (Pistacia terebinthus L.), kermes oak (Quercus coccifera L.), dyer?s oak (Quercus infectoria Oliv.), valonia oak (Quercus ithaburensis Decne) and holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) were used as plant material in the study. The treatments were etching (20, 40, 60 and 80% sulphuric acid) and soaking in hot water (80 and 100oC) along with the control for seed propagation; and four different IBA doses (0, 1000, 2000 and 4000 ppm) in three different rooting media (sand, perlite, sand+perlite) for cutting propagation.Mock privet and terebinth seed were not germinated by seed pretreatments. Of the oak species, the best emergence and growth were observed in valonia oak. No significant increase was determined in pre-treated kermes and dyer?s oak as compared to control. Seed pre-treatments yielded better results only in leaf length, leaf weight, root weight, and stem+leaf+root weight. Hot water treatment (80oC) did not give positive results. In general, the best results for emergence and seedling growth were obtained from 40% and 60% H2SO4 in valonia oak, and 20% and 80% H2SO4 in holm oak. No rooting was obtained in cutting propagation. Only terebinth, dyer?s oak and valonia oak showed shoot growth, but there was no root development, precluding propagation by cuttings. As a result, oak species can be easily propagated by seed.
