Investigation of morphological and physiological characteristics of some bread wheat (Titicum aestivum L.) genotypes under full and restricted water conditions

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out under semi-controlled greenhouse conditions in 2025 to investigate the morphological and physiological characteristics of 10 different bread wheat (Triticum Aestivum L.) genotypes under full and limited water conditions. In this study, wheat genotypes Alada, Beyazhani, Ceyhan 99, DZ-7 59, DZ-17 1, Empire, Toros 1003, Tosunbey, Local 4 and Local wheat varieties were tested for both yield and quality characteristics under 100% and 50% field capacity conditions. Main agronomic traits such as spike day, flowering day, SPAD (chlorophyll content) value, plant height, number of spikelets and grains, spike length, biomass, grain weight and pot grain yield were analyzed. The analyses were subjected to analysis of variance in terms of genotype, treatment and genotype × treatment interaction; statistically significant differences were determined by LSD test and statistically significant differences were found between genotypes for all traits (p<0.05). Especially Alada, Local 4, Local 71, Toros 1003, Empire, Tosunbey and DZ-17 1 stood out. A statistically significant difference was found only in spike length treatment effect (p>0.05).These data indicate that some of the evaluated genotypes showed high tolerance to drought stress, which is important for genetic materials to be drought resistant.In conclusion, this study is expected to make important contributions to sustainable wheat production and adaptation to climate change.
