Abstract (EN)

In recent years, studies on the role of plant extracts which present antioxidant effect on removing of free radicals, have been being performed. During the cell metabolism, free radicals occur after the effect of some chemicals and radiation. Free radicals is known to damage to the structure and DNA of cells. It has been shown in the investigations that ionized radiations are agents that cause free radicals to occur.In this study, E. coli spp in the areas of agar and agar + plant extracts (83 µl) was irradiationed by increasing gamma radiation (100, 200, 500, 1000, 3000 and 6000 cGy). E. coli?s in these two areas, exposed to radiation was compared. By this way, the effects of antioxidant etanolic extracts of plants and the effect of gamma radiation on E.coli spp were investigated. In this study, six plants (carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.), basil (Ocimum basilicum L.), ginger (Zingiber officinale), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L), tuft of mercury (Achillea millefolium L.) and cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) ) consumed by people and their fitoterapic effects was investigated. In this study, because of the increasing gamma radiation dose, a decrease in the number of colony of E. coli spp was demonstrated. Fitoterapic plants? ethyl alcohol ingredients couldn?t be evaluated, but it was demonstrated that it dispersed on the surface of petri and it was clustered and it was observed that plant extracts? antioxidant effect.Keywords : plant extract , gamma radiation , antioxidant , E.coli spp
