The effect of religion on sportive activities in students of physical education and sports department (the example of siirt University)

This research aims to examine the perceptions of students studying at Siirt University School of Physical Education and Sports about the influence of Islam on sportive activities within the framework of descriptive survey model. The population of the study consists of 310 students studying at Siirt University in the 2024-2025 academic year. Simple random sampling technique, one of the random sampling methods, was used to determine the sample group. "Islam Religious Impact Scale in Sportive Activities" was used as a data collection tool. The data obtained were analysed with descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation and percentage), independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques. As a result of the research, it was determined that the participants' perceptions of the influence of Islam in sportive activities were generally at the level of "agree" in terms of the sub-dimensions of the scale. Statistically significant differences were found in the participants' perceptions of the influence of Islam in sportive activities in the general total and motivation and morality sub-dimensions of the scale according to the gender variable; in the general total and morality, clothing and opposite sex sub-dimensions according to the age variable; in the participation sub-dimension according to the grade level variable; in the general total and motivation, morality, clothing, opposite sex and participation sub-dimensions according to the father's education level variable; and in the general total and self-control, clothing, opposite sex and participation sub-dimensions according to the residential area variable. On the other hand, no statistically significant difference was found between the scores of the participants on the scale of Islamic religious influence in sportive activities in relation to the variables of mother's education level and sports branch.
