Investigation of the effects of leadership styles used byphysical education and sports teachers on classroommanagement behavior (Diyarbakır province case)

The purpose of this study was to reveal the relationship between the leadership styles and classroom management behaviors of physical education and sports teachers. As a leader, the teacher is the person who creates strong emotions in the classroom environment by eliminating uncertainties while ensuring students' self-confidence. This research is a study conducted to determine the relationship between the two dependent variables of physical education and sports teachers' leadership styles and classroom management behaviors. The population of the research consisted of 921 physical education and sports teachers working in Diyarbakır in the 2022-2023 academic year. The sample of the research consisted of 300 physical education and sports teachers randomly selected from the universe. Two separate data collection tools were used to collect research data. Teacher Leadership Styles Scale was used to determine the leadership styles of physical education and sports teachers, and the Physical Education Teachers Classroom Management Behavior Scale was used to determine classroom management behaviors. The teacher leadership scale consists of 17 items. Since some items in the scale have reversed expressions, the items are reverse coded. There are 38 items in the scale used to determine the classroom management behaviors of physical education teachers. Since there are no reversed expressions in the scale, reverse scoring will not be done. SPSS 22 statistical package program was used to analyze the scale data. Within the scope of the research, data that could be analyzed was obtained from 294 participants. In order to select the statistical tests to be used to answer the research questions, both univariate and multivariate normality assumptions were checked. Thus, in the light of the results obtained, the selection of parametric or non-parametric tests was made. Exploratory factor analysis (KFA) was used to test the validity of the scales used in the study, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient reliability analysis was used to check their reliability. According to research findings, teachers with a democratic/participatory leadership style have more positive classroom management behavior compared to teachers with semi-democratic and autocratic/oppressive leadership styles. On the other hand, teachers with a semi-democratic leadership style exhibit more positive classroom management behavior compared to teachers with an autocratic/oppressive leadership style. Male teachers have relatively more negative classroom management behavior compared to female teachers. Teachers between the ages of 26-30 have a more autocratic/oppressive leadership type than teachers aged 41 and over.
