The attitudes of physical education and sports high school students towards the prefession of teaching

ABSTRACT The main aim of this research is to determine the attitudes of the students' to the profession of teaching at physical education and sports high schools. In the direction of this aim, the findings gained are thought to make use for the institutions in our country which are training teachers, the staff of the institution and the students. Also it is assumed that the findings gained from the research will be sources for the new researches and the programme improvements. The example of the research consists of totally 615 students, 224 of whom are girls and 392 of whom are boys who study at ist, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades at the physical education and sports high schools teacher training programme of Gazi University (Gazi Physical Education and Sports High School, Kırşehir Physical Education and Sports High School and Kastamonu Physical Education and Sports High School). In the research, 10 itemed 'Attitude Scale Aimed At Profession Of Teaching' developed by Aşkar and Erden (1986) has been made use to measure the students' attitudes and 'Student Personel Information Form' for independent variations. In the analysis of the datas; t-test, single aspected variation analysis and Tukey test techniques have been used. The significant level of the research has been accepted as 0.5. The results gained from the research can be abstracted as:. In the attitudes of physical education and sports high school students to the profession of teaching, it has been observed that there is a meaningful difference according to their class level and the places that they have resided the longest.. It has been observed that there is no meaningful difference in the attitudes of physical education and sports high school students to the profession of teaching according to sex, intermediate school success mark, the family's income level and the reason of choosing fields.
