The effect of physical education and sports on the socializtion of the mentally disabled in secondary school

The aim of this study is to search the effect of physicale ducation and sports on the socialization of the mentally disabled in secondary school.The 5th grade 41 grain mentally disabled students in special education classes which are under the control of national Education of Turkish Repuclic are sample of this study. The sementally disabled students have physical education and sports lessons under the supervision of the form tutor in primary school from 1 stto 4 thgrades. As for these condary school (from 5 thto 8th grades) they have thesa melessons under the supervision of physical education and sports teachers. The sociallevel of students who have started 5th grade has been assessedby a questionnaire at the beginning of the 1st term of 2018-2019 educational year. After 4 mont straining in physical education and sports classes the same questionaires have been applied to 25 students (boys and girls) 2 times as preliminaryand final test. As the students them selves were not in a position as to answer the questions, the questionaires have been handed to the class mentor teachers an three teachers have been evaluated. The dates of there search have been obtained via the question naire developed by Demirbağ (2010) which consistsand transformed into teacher observation form by us of 31 questions with face to face interview .The question naire has been applied to students twice as preliminaryand final test. The preliminary test has been applied on 24th of september, 2018 and January, 2019.The date so otained as results of the questionnaire have been analyzed utilizing SPSS 17 package program. The arithmetic mean sand the standarddeviations of the dates have been calculated and the differences have been interpreted by taking percantage sand frequency distributions into considerations. Bias level has bee naccepted as p<0.05. When the effect of sports on socialization is taken intoconsideration, in our study it is clearly seen that thre sport sand sportive activities may be useful in socialization of mentally disabled individuals KeyWords: Metally disabled, socialization, sports.
