Abstract (EN)

This study was done on developing Van Cats. In the study, the skeletal system diseases was investigated by radiologic and biochemical diagnosis. Cats aged between one to twelve months that obtained from the Research Centres of Van Cat of University of Yüzüncü Y11 and clinics where the cats were brought to cure from the area region of Van province. Fourty Van Cats from each sex (20 cats from each) were used in the study. The limbs and other parts of the animals were examined by radiologically first at three months then repeated at three months intervals. In these examinations, metabolic bone diseases and hip dysplasia were observed. The distribution of the number of animals and their sickness were as following, rachitism at three animals, hyperthyrophic osteopathy at two animals, nutritional seconder hyperparathyroidism at three animals. The results of Ca, P, Mg and ALP levels of blood samples taken from animals at three months intervals were 10.57±0.16, 6.39±0.31, 2.87±0.22, 211.50±11.79 at three months, 9.99±0.11, 6.73±0.26, 2.49±0.06, 195.40±13.98 at six months, 10.10±0.19, 6.08±0.22, 2.38±0.12, 175.89±12.26 at nine months and 9.78±0.13, 5.66±0.18, 2.48±0.05 and 157.17±10.70 at twelve months, respectively. In biochemical examinations, average concentration of Ca, P, Mg and ALP were 9.1 mg/dl, 3.6 mg/dl ve 2.3 mg/dl in rachitism positive-animals, 10.9 mg/dl, 8.4 mg/dl ve 2.3 mg/dl in hyperthyrophic osteopathy positive-animals, 8.6 mg/dl, 8.2 mg/dl ve 2.3 mg/dl in nutritional seconder hyperparathyroidism positive-animals, respectively. Ratio of calcium phosphorus was 2.6 mg/dl in rachitism positive-animals, 1.3 mg/dl in hyperthyrophic osteopathy positive-animals and 1.1 mg/dl in nutritional seconder hyperparathyroidism positive-animals. In general, 87.5% of metabolic diseases were seen at 3-6 months ages, hip dysplasia was seen at 12 months and over ages. The rations of the diseases according to the sex of the animals were 62.5% at males and 37.5% at female. In conclusion, the results of radiologic and biochemical examinations are important at definite diagnosis of metabolic bone diseases. Hence, metabolic bone diseases positive animals should be supported by radiologic and biochemical examinations.
