Psychosocial adjusment of behçet patients to the illness

This study is carried in a descriptive type to identify the psychosocial adjusment levels of the illness of Behçet patients. The sample of study consists of 90 Behcet patients checked and followed in Minister of Health Ankara Ulucanlar Eye Education and Research Hospital. Data of research collected by face to face interwiew with using ?Patient İnformation Form?, ?Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale (PAIS-SR)? and ?Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HAD)?. While analysing statistically t test, Mann Whitney U test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Kruskal-Wallis variance analysis and coefficient of correlation were used. According to the results of the research it is determined that most of the patients are men, between 18-35 years old, married, unemployed, graduated from primary school or uneducated, having children, having medium or high level of income, receiving social support and satisfaction from support. %38,9 patients? illness period longs more than ten years, %50 of them have admitted into hospital for 1-4 times during their ilness period, %48,9 of patient have eye ecliptic and mucocutaneous ecliptic. %21,1 of them have high anxiety risk, % 57,8 of them have high depression risk. It is identified that PAIS- SR total score of Behçet patients? was 43.14±17.80 average and %30 of the patients have poor adjustment. Psychosocial adjustments of the patients who are unemployed, having low income, having medicine side affects, having appearance changing due to illness, having personel feelings changes about appearance changing, his body less than before, having high level of depression risk, having high level of anxiety risk, not receiving social support, thinking the illness as a harmful thing and having insufficient knowledge of illness are poor. A negative correlation between pleasure of general situation with PAIS-SR and control perception (about ilness,treatment, daily signs); positive correlation between number of medicine being used and HAD- Anxiety, HAD- Depression score have found.
