Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Considering the increasing major earthquake risk for Istanbul and surrounding area, structural evaluation of the existing buildings seems to be an obligation. In this study, damage probability of mid-rise concrete frame buildings is investigated. To create sample buildings, 3, 5 and 7 storey representative buildings are designed according to 1975 Turkish seismic design code. Using twelve different artifical ground motion records which are produced for Zeytinburnu region, incremental inelastic dynamic analyses are carried out to determine yielding and collapse capacities in terms of peak ground acceleration, spectral acceleration, spectral displacement and interstory drift ratio. Based on those mentioned capacities, fragility curves are constructed in terms of the same ground motion indices. Then, regression analyses were carried out to extend the results for 4 and 6 storey buildings. Using the fragility curves mentioned above, limit values of interstory drift ratio and spectral displacement are estimated for immediate occupancy, life safety and collapse prevention performance levels by using the statistical methods.
