Abstract (EN)

In last few years, demand to construct high-rise buildings increased substantially in Istanbul, a cosmopolitan, which the city had faced numerious severe earthquake disasters in history. In 2008, Istanbul High-Rise Buildings Earthquake Code was released by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, for structural design of high-rise buildings according to earthquake resistance criterias in buildings which are going to be constructed in Istanbul. In this master of thesis, a 45 story, 180 meters height-reinforced concrete high-rise building is modeled and designed according to Istanbul High-Rise Buildings Earthquake Code, which is still a draft version. Foreign codes, standards, guidelines and papers in academic literature are also reviewed and referred where it necessitated. On the other hand, diagonally reinforced concrete coupling beams of the structure are replaced with steel coupling beams and nonlinear time history analysis is repeated by PERFORM-3D software and the seismic performance of the structure is evaluated again.
