The implementation of the occupational training course taught at the elementary schools of Beypazarı

This rescarch has been carried out to look at the implementation of theCommerce Course which is one of the Occupational Training courses taught at theElementary Schools of Beypazari, an administrative district of Ankara. OccupationalTraining course include; home economy, occupation and technique, agriculture andcommerce courses. Although this rescarch basically covers the objectives of theOccupational Training course, its development both in the world and in our countryand how it is taught, it also covers the implementation of the commerce course at theadministrative district level, in correlation to the sub courses of OccupationalTraining.The data has been collected by scanning the related literature and usingquestionnaires. The questionnaire has been carried out by sampling teachers teachingcommerce course among all the Occupational Training teachers working in theElementary Schools in Beypazari district of Ankara. The questionnaire prepared forcommerce teachers has been structured to reflect all the dimensions of the course.While conducting the questionnaire, commerce teachers have been interviewed andtheir views and proposals concerning the functioning of the course and the problemsencountered in implementation have been recorded.As an outcome of this research we have found out that: in the total 18elementary schools in Beypazari district, commerce courses was taught in only 7schools; the number of teachers teaching commerce was insufficient; necessaryworkshops and tools and equipments necessary for the course were lacking inschools; weekly course hours were insufficient; parents, students and especially theadministrators, were not aware of the importance of the course; the role of the courseto direct students to the occupation was not efficiently used and the course was notimplemented as defined in the program.As a result of this research we have reached the following conclusion: Thereis great malfunctioning concerning the implementation of the commerce courseiiitaught in the Elementary schools of Beypazari district which is situated 99 km awayfrom Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Also most of the objectives of the course are notbeing met. Taking these facts into consideration, arrangements must be made withoutany loss of time, to solve the existing problems related to this course.
