Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to transfer the current status of occidentalism under the question of whether occidentalism is a way of thinking, a counter-discourse or a science and extend related literature a little bit bringing different perspectives to the subject. In line with this purpose, in the first chapter the necessity of occidentalism was emphasized by discussing the subject of orientalism which is a predecessor of occidentalism in the light of Eurocentrism and the otherization. In the second part it was studied to identify the concept of occidentalism by addressing the definition, subject, scope, purpose and the method of occidentalism, and then the different opinions about the occidentalism were conveyed. After examining whether occidentalism is a way of thinking, a counter-discourse or a science, the study was concluded with the critics on the issue.Upon the literature review, the obtained information was tried to be composed with our thoughts in order to achieve the aim. This study clearly demonstrated the need for occidentalism of the Orient since the occidentalism is the name of liberation movements of the Orient. To think of being already a liberal is the indication of westernization of the conscience. The peak point of occidentalism is being the corporate institution where the Orient ?self? is introduced, assimilated and put forth as a discourse.
