Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between emotion regulation strategies and suicide probability in patients with bipolar disorder. The sample of the study consisted of 100 patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder who were hospitalised in Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital located in Bakırköy district of Istanbul. ''Personal Information Form, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), Suicide Probability Scale (SPS), Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), Beck Depression Scale (BDS)'' were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, the compatibility of continuous variables with normal distribution was evaluated by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. In independent group comparisons, the significance test of the difference between two means or one-way ANOVA was used if parametric test conditions were met for continuous variables. Mann-Whitney U test or Kruskal-Wallis test were used when parametric test conditions were not met. The relationship between two continuous variables was assessed by Pearson or Spearman's rank correlation coefficients. In this study, 53% of the patients with bipolar disorder were between 36-65 years of age, 50% had attempted suicide in the past, and 44% had suicidal ideation. The mean total SPS total score of the patients was 90.84±5.57, the mean score of cognitive reappraisal, one of the sub-dimensions of ERQ, was 26.84±5.84, the mean suppression score was 14.22±3.65. The mean YMRS total score was 4.29-5.06 and the mean BDS total score was 8.62±5.52. With the cognitive reappraisal sub-dimension, there was a moderate negative correlation with PSS, a moderate negative correlation with BDS, and a very weak positive correlation with YMRS.
