Ereğli Coal Basin Labor Union as a social security institution

Labor Union; It started its operations in 1923 as Turkey's first social security institution in order to regulate the working conditions of Zonguldak Ereğli Coal Basin mine workers and protect their rights. The Labor Union, which first started its activities with the aim of providing social security to mine workers in the period when there were no social security institutions, has played a leading role since its establishment. Today, the Labor Union provides social assistance to its members as the Savings and Aid Fund. This union is important in that it constitutes the first example of social security practices in Turkey. There have not been enough studies on this subject. The current situation of the Labor Union, which was important for the mine workers of the Ereğli Coal Basin under the conditions of the time it was established, was tried to be revealed. Miners working in difficult and risky conditions need to be protected more than anyone else, and their working conditions and relations with the employer need to be regulated.
