Abstract (EN)

Culture is a concept consisting of concrete and abstract elements which affect life practices and systems of though of individuals. Individualism-collectivism, idealism-relativism and materialism, which are parts of the culture, are concepts that include the abstract and concrete sides of culture. Individualism-collectivism, which is an extent of expression of the relation of individual with his/her society; idealism-relativism, which is an expression of the ethical understanding of an individual; and materialism, which measures the extent to which individuals give importance to material elements in their lives, are all in some kind of relation with the thought and living practices of individuals. Hedonic shopping behavior, which is in the living practice of individuals, is in some kind of relation with the cultural elements mentioned above.Basic subject of this study is examination of relations between individualism-collectivism, idealism-relativism and materialism, on one hand, and hedonic shopping, on the other. In this study which was conducted among students enrolled at public and private universities, relations between tendencies for individualism-collectivism, idealism-relativism, materialism, as well as demographic factors have been examined. As a result of statistical analysis of the data which were obtained through survey method, significant relation has been found out between individualism-collectivism, idealism-relativism and materialism and hedonic shopping. In addition, significant relation has been found out between demographic factors like differences of living area, gender, and income, and hedonic shopping.
