Abstract (EN)
In this study, what happened in Jerusalem during the First World War, the political, social and economic effects of the war on the city and the development process in Jerusalem were investigated using Ottoman archival documents, diarys, memoirs and various literature sources. The lack of sufficient studies on this subject in the Turkish literature and the fact that Ottoman archives have not been used much despite the fact that there are more studies in foreign literature made it necessary to conduct this study. In the first part of the study, the situation of the subjects of the hostile state and the Jewish, Christian and Muslim subjects of the Ottoman Empire in Jerusalem as a result of the abolition of the capitulations and the Ottoman policies towards them were revealed. In the second part, the effects of the locust invasion, hot easterly winds and epidemics that emerged in Syria and Palestine during the war on the society of Jerusalem are discussed, and the reaction of the local population and the local administrator of Jerusalem to the collection of the monopoly of warfare is analyzed. In addition, the positive impact of the locust infestation on the people of Jerusalem is analyzed. The last chapter, the third chapter, describes the process leading to the fall of Jerusalem as a result of the failure of the Canal operations and how the British captured the city. In addition, the preparation process for the Canal operation in Syria and Palestine, the Sharif Hussein rebellion, the loss of morale in the army as a result of the failure of the Ottoman Empire, and the approach of the Ottoman Empire against the deserters are discussed. Keywords: Jerusalem, War, Subjects of the Hostile State, Locust Infestation, Epidemic Diseases, Muslim, Christian, Jew, Zionism.
