Abstract (EN)
Decreasing of the known fossil fuels day by day, an alternative fuel is needed to meet world?s energy. Biodiesel is one of the best available sources to meet these request. Diesel fuel is preferred because of the it?s high efficiency and guarantee but high soot and NOX emissions are the most important disadvantages. Working with higher excess air and compression ratios in Diesel engines than the petrol engines, the nitrogen oxide (NOX) creating potential increases. In particular, due to the NOX which is main and combustion products of combustion process have a serious influence acid rains and human health, many studies have been made and in these studies, it is determined that the most effective way to reduce the nitrogen oxide (NOX) is to reduce the peak temperature during combustion. Emulsification technique is one of the most important methods that is used to reduce the pollution created by diesel engine. In this study, a single cylinder diesel engine with different biodiesel water blends was experimentally tested to investigate and analyse performance, emission characteristics and exhaust temperature. The results show that the brake engine torque and the brake engine power decrease as the water percentage in the emulsion increases but the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) increases. In addition, carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC) increase as the percentage of the water increases in the emulsion fuel. However nitrogen oxide (NOX) and smoke emissions decrease as the percentage of water increases in the emulsion fuel. Key words: biodiesel, biodiesel-water emulsions, emulsification technique, exhaust emissions.
