Ornithofauna of Boğaçayı wetland (Antalya: Konyaaltı)

his research was conducted to investigate the bird species within the Boğaçayı wetland in the Konyaaltı district of Antalya, and their national and international conservation statuses. The research was carried out between January 2023 and December 2023 at fixed and randomly selected points where flight paths, feeding, and resting behaviors of birds could be observed. Observations were made using a Nikon Aculon A211 10x50 binocular, a Canon D40 camera, a Canon 100-400 mm telezoom lens. The identification of species was guided by the "Birds of Turkey and the Middle East" reference book, and identified species were listed according to their statuses in the IUCN, BERN Convention Annexes, Turkey Birds Red List, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Protected Animals List, and the European Union Birds Directive 2009/147/EC. A total of 80 bird species belonging to 17 orders and 37 families were identified in the study. According to the IUCN population statuses, 76 species were classified as LC , 3 species as NT .According to the Turkey Birds Red List A and B classification system, 1 species were categorized as A.1.2, 13 species as A.2, 39 species as A.3, 5 species as A.4, 12 species as A.5, 1 species as B.1.2, 1 species as B.2, 3 species as B.3, 1 species as B1.3, 2 species as B.4, and 2 species as B.5. Regarding the migration statuses in the Turkey Birds Red List, 58 species were local, 3 species were summer migrants, 9 species were migrants 10 species were winter migrants According to the BERN Convention annexes, 48 species were listed in Annex-2, 28 species in Annex-3. According to the European Union Birds Directive 2009/147/EC annexes, 19 species were listed in Annex-1, 6 species in Annex-2.A, 7 species in Annex-2.B. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry decisions annexes, 22 species were listed in Annex-2, 58 species in Annex-3. This study identified 80 bird species in the Boğaçayı wetland. It was concluded that the habitats and populations of some of the identified species should be conserved according to IUCN, Turkey Birds Red List, BERN Convention, European Union Birds Directive 2009/147/EC, and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry decisions.
