Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT DETERMINATION OF POLLUTION LOADS CARRIED TO ANTALYA BAY FROM THE ACTIVITIES IN BO?AÇAY CATCHMENT AREA AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOLUTION Hakan O?UZ M.S. in Environmental Sciences *! Adviser : Prof. Dr. Bülent TOPKAYA February, 2001, 110 pages The cleanest coasts in Turkey are found in Antalya Bay. This region attracts many foreign tourists and most of the tourism investments are realised along these coasts. As a result, Antalya is a very important city for the country from the economical aspect. In order to maintain the existing conditions İn the Bay in the future, the streams flowing into the Bay have to be under control. Many streams carry different types of pollutants generated from the activities in their catchment areas to the Bay and these pollutants are deposited in the coastal region. In this study, the pollution level caused by Boğaçay, flowing into Konyaalti Beach, has been examined with its catchment area. The main pollution sources are determined on digital maps. The resulting pollution loads show that high amounts of plant nutrients and solids are carried to the Bay. The precautions need to be applied to the whole catchment area in order to prevent this pollution threat.
