Abstract (EN)

The issue of unemployment has emerged as a global concern in recent years. Historically, unemployment was predominantly observed in underdeveloped and developing countries, but today it has become a serious problem even in developed nations. Mistakes in fiscal policies, declines in production capacities, global financial crises, and political and technological developments are among the main factors contributing to unemployment. In countries experiencing high unemployment rates, individuals are negatively affected socially, financially, and psychologically. To combat this global issue, countries must develop joint policies. In recent years, there is no longer a big difference between underdeveloped and developed countries in terms of unemployment. One of the countries facing this issue is Türkiye. Unemployment is among the most pressing problems in our country, particularly in the TRC3 region (Siirt, Batman, Şırnak, Mardin), where unemployment and its negative effects are more pronounced. In this study, firstly, the concepts of region and regional development are discussed in a conceptual framework. In addition, the concept of unemployment and types of unemployment are explained. In the case of Siirt, unemployment and per capita GDP data for the TRC3 region are examined with tables and graphs. Unemployment rates and GDP per capita data for Türkiye and Siirt are separately addressed with tables and graphs, and the policies implemented to combat unemployment are detailed, along with proposed solutions for the high unemployment rates in Siirt. Keywords: Regional Development, Unemployment, Siirt.
