Evaluation of brachial plexus block with plethysmographic variability index and perfusion index

Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Objective: In this study; Bedside Radical-97 Pulsed CO-Oximeter (Masimo Corp, Irvine, CA, USA) (noninvasive) plethysmographic variability index and perfusion index measured values of patients undergoing elective or emergency surgery in Dicle University Hospital operating theaters and underwent brachial plexus block. It was aimed to be evaluated. Materials and Methods: This study included 34 patients aged 18-65 years who were elective or underwent surgery and who had brachial plexus block, without cardiac disease-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma disease. Informed consent was obtained from the patient or patient relatives for the study. Standard anesthesia monitoring was provided to all patients. Bedside noninvasive serial plethysmographic variability index and perfusion index measurements of the patients included in the study were used using the fingertip sensor probe of the Radical-97TM Pulse CO-OximeterTM (Masimo Corp, Irvine, CA, USA), which results in spectrophotometric method from the fourth fingertip of the hand to which the block was applied. Results: The correlation between PVI and PI values during the measurements of patients was investigated, and no significant correlation was found between PVI and PI. When the PVI values measured at 0, 5, and 10 minutes in the block arm were compared; The difference between 0 and 5 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes and 0 and 10 minutes was statistically significant. When the PI values were 0 and 5 min, 5 and 10 min, 0 and 10 min, the changes were found statistically significant. ( p<0.05) Conclusion: In our study where we used PVI and PI to evaluate the block in patients with brachial plexus block, the changes in PI and PVI values were statistically significant.
