Evaluation in terms of professional issues of dealers of plant protection products in Bursa province

In this study, which was conducted at Büyükorhan, Gemlik, Gürsu, İnegöl, İznik, Karacabey, Keles, Kestel, Mudanya, Mustafakemalpaşa, Nilüfer, Osmangazi, Orhangazi, Orhaneli, Yenişehir and Yıldırım districts in Bursa province in 2018, it was aimed at evaluating the plant protection dealers' professional issues (demographic and workplace characteristics, official institutions, pesticide companies, communication partnership with producers and approach to the agricultural pest control subjects). In the study region, a survey study was carried out at 168 pesticide dealers selected randomly. According to the results obtained, 28,0 % of the dealers were graduated from Plant Protection Department and 23,8 % and 76,2 % of dealer owners and dealer workers had dealer permission document, respectively. It was determined that the dealers had rarely cooperated with agricultural institutions except for official processes and 62,5 % of them had problems in diagnosing plant diseases, pests and weeds. It was ascertained that 86,3 % of the dealers experienced difficulty with payments to the pesticide companies and had issues in communication and product delivery. Of all dealers, 58,3 % of them stated pesticides were very expensive and they sold mostly fungicide + insecticide (33,3 %), fungicide (28,6 %), insecticide (25,0 %) and herbicide (13,1 %), however, 58,9 % of the dealers required update for registration dose of pesticides. It was found that 44,1 % of the dealers helped for the problems of the producers with their self-knowledge. According to the dealers, 42,3 % of the producers were not aware of the biological control and 39,9 % of them were not aware of the integrated control and early forecasting systems. As a result of the study, obtained findings were evaluated and suggestions were made.
