Bursa urban development process and planning periods

Bursa city, which has existed in the same region since the first ages, has entered the urbanization process by showing rapid development in Turkey during the 8500 years that have passed to this day and has become an important industrial, commercial and tourist center. Bursa, which is the fourth largest city of Turkey, started to be shaped according to the culture and understanding of the societies it hosted in urban sense after joining the Ottoman lands. In the city, where planning studies were carried out according to the modern planning approach, while an effort to renew itself and change the society it was in was pursued in the Ottoman period, a more comprehensive and planned working system was discussed in order to make planning in accordance with the urban texture in the Republic period. Social, economic and cultural factors have been effective in the change in the physical structure of the city. New settlements and living areas had to be opened in order to meet the needs in the city, which experienced an increase in population due to the immigration from the surrounding provinces and the Balkans as it is an industrial city. City plans have been made in order to provide a better quality and healthier life and to prevent uncontrolled growth. If the population of a city starts to increase, it means that the urban fabric will deteriorate if it does not have a plan. In this study, the development, change and transformation of the city of Bursa from the first day of its foundation to the present day has been examined and the factors that are effective in city formation are discussed. . In addition, the urban planning processes that direct the development process were examined in periods and their effects on the physical space that emerged today were investigated. When examining these plans, how the city of Bursa has come to date, the purpose of the planning for the city, the natural, physical, spatial, social, economic, cultural and technological factors that shape the planning and what the effect of these factors on the development phase of the city, What are the accelerating factors, what should or should be taken into consideration in order for the development plans to be applicable to the city.
