Abstract (EN)

Turkish Electricity Transmission System was connected to European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), which is the European Continental Electricity Transmission Network, by means of two 380 kV lines over Bulgaria and one 380 kV line over Greece, on September 18th of 2010. Through these connection lines, an electricity commerce with a scale of 1200 MW has been targeted between Europe and Turkey. Inter-area oscillations between Turkey and continental Europe had been foreseen, once the connection of Turkey to ENSTO-E was completed. The identification and damping of these possible oscillations are necessary for a reliable connection. Otherwise, if these inter-area oscillations cannot be damped out by the inherent dynamics of the electricity network and if their amplitudes continue to grow, they can result in black-out or brown-out events in the transmission system. Hence, it is quite important that these inter-area oscillations should be identified and damped out respectively. In this work, the development of an inter-area oscillation identifier system and its application to already installed FACTS devices in the Turkish Electricity Transmission System in order to damp out the foreseen inter-area oscillations after the interconnection of Turkish and European Networks, is examined thoroughly.
