Abstract (EN)

The Chaghatai Khanate was established in the territory given to Chaghatai Khan, the son of Genghis Khan. This geography covers the Turkestan region in its main outlines. The Chaghatai Khanate spent all of its foundation years under the Great Mongol Khanate. Therefore, its political and economic history was determined by this relationship. They were subordinate to them in many matters, especially in the administration of cities and tax collection. This prevented the Chaghatai Khanate from actingin dependently. With the loss of the Great Khanate's authority and the dissolution of ties between the Mongol uluses, the Chaghataids began to act independently. In this process, they began to govern their cities and collect taxes on their own behalf. Chaghatai society was formed by the combination of people living in the city and the steppe. Therefore, their main sources of livelihood were varied. While the nomads were engaged in animal husbandry, the urban dwellers were engaged in agriculture and trade. The finances of the Chaghatai Khanate are quite simple. Due to the scarcity of sources, issues such as which officials were in charge, the duties of these officials, tax items, tax policies, and land administration remain in the dark. This study aims to present the economy of the Chaghatai Khanate in a holistic manner.
