The place and importance of P. Bourdieu in contemporary French sociology and philosophy

This study aims to form a conceptual basis by explaining the life, basic concepts and contributions of Pierre Felix Bourdieu, one of the important thinkers of the twentieth century, to the science of sociology. One of the main reasons why Bourdieu is among the important thinkers is that he attempted to overcome the contradictions with a philosophy-based sociology. When looking at the history of sociology; It is seen that dualisms such as individual-society, action-structure or subject-object continue to exist for many years. All these dualisms ultimately divided and polarized social scientists. Bourdieu, on the other hand, aimed to overcome all these dualities with his conceptual repertoire. He shaped many important concepts, especially habitus, field, capital and reflexive, within his own sociology and gave new meanings to these concepts. With his conceptual explanations, he stated that the contrasts in question at different poles did not contribute to the science of sociology, and instead he defended the unity of the opposites. He emphasized that the object together with the subject, the individual together with the society or the action together with the structure are more meaningful and that these concepts will contribute to the science of sociology in unity. For this reason, this study focuses on Bourdieu's concepts and examines his explanatory repertoire in detail.
