Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to examine the aesthetic, conceptual, technical, and technological aspects of color in contemporary ceramic art. Within the scope of the thesis, the element of color is addressed not only as a decorative component but also as a means of expression that strengthens the relationship between form and meaning. The study is supported by literature review, comparative analysis, and application stages. In the first chapter, the physical and perceptual aspects of the concepts of light and color are examined, and scientific and artistic color theories are explained. In the second chapter, the historical process of color in ceramic art, coloring materials, and the uses of color in contemporary ceramic art reflecting Johannes Itten's seven color contrasts are discussed. In the third chapter, by synthesizing the relationships of color contrasts with form, surface, and meaning, personal color research and applications have been carried out. The series "Mu Travelers", which constitutes the practical part of the thesis, has been created by considering the aesthetic and psychological effects of color contrasts on figurative forms. In the conclusion and discussion section of the research, a general evaluation, comparative interpretations of the obtained data, and recommendations formed in the light of these findings are presented.
