Grotesque portraits in contemporary

Grotesque, known as the art of redescribe existence with unusual (absurd) characteristics and turning them into a phenomenon that does not belong to the world; is a form of description that takes the human body and face as its subject and feels both a disturbing feeling in a weird way and a compassionate pity in the audience at the same time. In this regard, grotesque is an unusual art style commonly used in the ancient mythology, culture and art of all nations. This study aims to investigate portraits described the human face as an existence in contemporary Turkish painting after 1960 and described in a grotesque style, and the artists who produced them. In this context, it was analysed how it is possible to manipulate the concept of beauty in the description of human faces which are taken as subjects by artists. In this context, the portrait works of the artists discussed are classified under the titles of irony, kitsch, exaggeration, black humor, the unusual (absurd), horror, uncanny, fantasy, oddity, ugliness, motif and ornamentation and the paintings were analysed from an aesthetic, philosophical and cultural perspective. The identified titles show that the contemporary grotesque art style is a way of expressing yourself with a critical approach in Turkish painting and suggests a different aesthetic perception in this regard.
