Debates on artificial intelligence in contemporary philosophy of mind -Turing Test and its reflections-

In philosophy of mind, there is no consensus on what mind is. All the discussions on the nature of mind cause some different definitions concerning its nature; thus, some various thoughts arise on whether the mind is producible thing or not. With developing science consequently the artificial intelligence discussions have emerged. This scientific field has been developing in engineering and medicine and the improvements have brought forth a set of theological implications. In this study, the implications are discussed. The aim of this study is to reveal principal problems underlying in the contemporary discussions by presenting the roots of artificial intelligence. Thus, our study is firstly focuses on the body-mind problem and theological implications of discussions on artificial intelligence. Secondly, Turing Test (as an example of 'artificial intelligence' researches) and Chinese Room Thought Experiment are described and the criticism of the Turing Test is examined. In conclusion, the study shows that the various approaches to defining mind. Give different answers to question "Is it possible to produce a mind?". Also, the examinations on Turing Test and The Chinese Room Argument highlight that the speech act is a distinctive ability for human being in comparison with machines.
