Abstract (EN)

In this study, a total of 42 plant samples (total of 70 samples due to the stems, seeds, leaves and flowers of the plants) from different regions of Çanakkale were investigated for their antioxidant capacity, total phenol and ascorbic acid contents. The antioxidant capacity of methanolic extracts prepared from various parts of plants was evaluated by both TEAC (trolox equivalents antioxidant capacity) and DPPH (2,2? diphenyl? 1? picrylhydrazyl) assays, while total phenol and ascorbic acid contents were determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu and 2.6? dichlorophenolindophenol ? xylene extraction methods, respectively.TEAC values of plant extracts ranged between 1472,36 ± 23,58 and 17,61 ± 0,44 µmol of Trolox equivalents/g dw and EC50 values varied from 0.174 ± 0,002 to 42.475 ± 1,761 mg dw of plant, while total phenol content of plant extracts ranged between 117.20 ± 0,636 and 1.1 ± 0,035 mg of gallic acid equivalent /g dw. There was a positive linear correlation between the trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity and total phenols of plant materials (r = 0.917). The extracts of Hypericum perforatum, Arbutus andrachne and Paliurus spina-christii showed the higher antioxidant activities according to both TEAC and DPPH assays. However, there was not any significant correlation between TEAC and EC50 values of plant materials (r = 0,441). The ascorbic acid content of plant materials ranged between 461,811 and 11,224 mg / 100 g dw. The highest amount of ascorbic acid was found in the extract of Paliurus spina-christii.
