Abstract (EN)

From the blood samples of the species Emys orbicularis (Linnaeus, 1758) and Mauremys rivulata (Valenciennes, 1833) distributed in Çanakkale, hematological parameters erythrocyte count, leukocyte count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean erythrocyte volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration and parameters of plasma biochemistry such as Total protein, Urea, Glucose and Triglyceride were examined by different methods. The ecological properties of the fresh waters, where the species live, (dissolved oxygen, ph, conductivity and temperature) were determined.According to the results of this study, no sexual dimorphism could be found in the species Emys orbicularis and Mauremys rivulata depending on hematological data whereas sexual dimorphism was present in the triglyceride value in terms of plasma biochemistry. While no differences could be determined in terms of hematological values between reproductive and post-reproductive periods, differences were detected in females in triglyceride and total protein quantities in terms of plasma biochemical values. However, differences were detected between species in leukocyte count in terms of hematological values and in triglyceride and total protein quantity in terms of plasma biochemical values. According to the water quality of their biotopes, differences were detected in erythrocyte and leukocyte counts of the species E. orbicularis and in erythrocyte and leukocyte counts as well as in MCV and MCH values in M. rivulata. In the species E. orbicularis, differences were detected in biochemical sense in total protein and urea quantities between dry and wet periods.Key Words: Emys orbicularis, Mauremys rivulata, Hematology, Plasma biochemistry, Ecology
