Abstract (EN)
The western part of Turkey and its surrounding provinces are one of the most rapidly deforming continental areas as characterized by significant geophysical and geological features, such as wide spread seismic and volcanic activities, high heat flowin tense faulting and folding fast spatial variations of the gravity and magnetic fields. The pre-Miocene tectonic framework of the are aaround Izmir-Çandarlı can be characterized by the N-NE trending faults. These faults are cut off orthogonally by a predominantly west-north west fault system resulted from the late Miocene extension. The most prominent structural and morphological features of there gionare E-W trending normal faults where they are defined as the graben boundaries. It was affected not only by the development of the Çandarlı graben related with the N-S opening tectonics but also by the west ward movement of the Anatolian Plate. After the volcanic episode, Çandarlı basin region began to be deformed under the E-W compression along with the N-S extension. During this deformation, NE-SW and NW-SE faults which are stil active and have seismic risks, have been developed. An important rivers flow to this region are Bakırçay, Madra, Gediz deltas and the depositional structure have formed by deltas, especially such as prodeltas that have been difference between structures. The regression and transgression actions have observed along the shoreline as a result of the increase and decrease of a sea level due to this delta is occured very dense sediment accumulation. Furthermore, the informations from drilled well is important in terms of chrostratigraphy. Seismic stratigraphy of Çandarlı Bay and its surrounding area have been interpreted and its relation with sediment accumulation has been investigated by using multi-channel seismic data. Keywords: Çandarlı Bay, Graben, Seismic Stratigraphy, Bakırçay River
