Abstract (EN)
Objective: In this study, we aimed to compare the possibility of being malignant of FNAB results of one cm and below one cm in diamater nodules and above one cm in diamater nodules. And we aimed to analyse the US findings and possibility of being malignant of FNAB results of these nodules.Materials and Methods:Between May 2009 and May 2010 157 nodular goiter patients applied to endocrinology polyclinic were followed up. 60 of these patients had one cm and below one cm in diamater and 97 of them had above one cm in diamater thyroid nodules. These patients were carried out FNAB with US and were analysed retrospectively. Whole cystic nodules, nodules with peripherial calcification and nodules that its FNAB result has poor material weren?t used in the study. As a malignancy criteria at US, including hypoechoic pattern, solid structure, punctate calcification, contour irregularity features of nodule and not having peripherial halo feature of nodule were used. In statistical analyse, p<0.05 was accepted as significant. Results: Statistically it wasn?t observed significant difference between one cm and below one cm in diameter, and above one cm in diameter nodulesin terms of determined malignancy rates (p=0.707). For each two groups it wasn?t determined statistically significant relation between the US findings of nodules considered as suspicious in terms of malignancy (hypoechoic pattern, solid structure, punctate calcification, contour irregularity , not having peripherial halo) and malignancy (p>0.05).Conclusion: In nodular goitre malignancy diagnosis rate is low. Besides, early diagnosis of malignancy is very important. In our study ,as a result of considering nodules carried out FNAB, it wasn?t observed significant difference between US features of the nodule and malignancy. Besides, statistically it wasn?t observed significant difference between one cm and below one cm in diameter, and above one cm in diameter thyroid nodules in terms of determined malignancy rates. Therefore, we think that regardless of the nodule size and US features of nodule in order to early diagnosis FNAB should carried out the each nodules which are available to carry out.Key Words: Thyroid, US, nodular goiter, nodule diameter, FNAB
