Abstract (EN)

This study has a bilateral objective. Initially,it aims to introduce concepts of conflict resolution education and its objectives, philosophy, history, theory, and educational applications, and also its applications on educational setting provide a new frame work for Turkish educational system. Secondly, it attempts to provide a starting point for further researches in the area of conflict resolution education in the schools by scrutinizing the effect of the ongoing program on students conflict resolution behavior. In this context, conflict and its resolution in the school setting are explained. Then a conceptual introduction to conflict resolution and skills which are given to the students in the program, are discussed. This experimental study was based on both pre-test and post-test model with control group. The student sample group was selected from the 9,10th grade students of Be§ikta§ Atatiirk Anatolian High School. The experimental group was consisted of 15 students, as being 8 girls and 7 boys, and the control group was consisted of 8 girls and 7 boys. The experimental group was given "Conflict Resolution Education Program". Control group was not given any training about the issue. Conflict resolution behaviors of the student sample group were measured by the "Conflict Resolution Questionnaire" adapted by the researcher.Test-retest technique and Cronbach Alfa internal consistency coefficent were used to assess reliability of Conflict Resolution Questionnaire. Content validity and construct validity techniques were used to assess validity of Conflict Resolution Questionnaire. Factor Analysis method was used to assess the construct validity and factor structure of Conflict Resolution Questionnaire. Wilcoxon technique (Non-parametric) was used in the analysis of data. A significant difference was found between pre-test and post-test scores of experimental group's conflict resolution behaviors, whereas no significant difference was observed between pre-test and post-test scores of control group's conflict resolution behaviors.
