The relationship between causality and knowledge in Jalal al-Din al-Dawani and his work Sharh al-'Aqa'id al-'Adudiyya

This study aims to comprehensively examine how the effectiveness of premises in reaching a conclusion is interpreted in philosophical circles and Devvânî's perspective on this matter. The study elaborates on fundamental philosophical and epistemological topics such as knowledge, causality, and the role of reason in acquiring knowledge. Firstly, a discussion on the nature of knowledge is conducted. Questions such as how knowledge is understood, how it is formed, and whether it is certain are explored. Different philosophical approaches to knowledge are examined, and the differences between these approaches are highlighted. In this section, different views on whether knowledge is relative or absolute are discussed. The concept of causality is examined through the question of whether it applies only to events in the external world or also plays a role in the process of acquiring knowledge. This thesis discusses the nature of causality in the process of acquiring knowledge. The role of causality in the process of acquiring knowledge is critical for understanding the formation and accuracy of knowledge. Therefore, the thesis analyzes in detail how the concept of causality operates both in actions and in the processes of acquiring knowledge. Methods of acquiring knowledge also constitute an important part of this thesis. Although the main focus of the study is the function of reason in acquiring knowledge, other methods of acquiring knowledge are also addressed. It is crucial to fully understand the roles of the senses and reason in the process of acquiring knowledge. The relationship between the senses and reason provides an important link for understanding how knowledge is formed and validated. Subsequently, the study examines how the roles of the senses and reason in acquiring knowledge complement and support each other. Devvânî's views on the relationship between reasoning and knowledge acquisition, and his criticisms of those who oppose him on this matter, are central to this study. Devvânî's approaches are analyzed both in their historical context and in light of modern philosophical discussions. Devvânî's thoughts make significant contributions to the philosophy of knowledge and Islamic philosophy, and this study aims to provide a new perspective to the field by evaluating his views in a broader context.
