Abstract (EN)

Steel is the most commonly and widely used material in the world; therefore it is the low- priced and easily acquired row material. However, it shows poor resistance to abrasion and corrosion in different environmental conditions. As a result of abrasion and corrosion; equipments become out of order, unusable. This situation paves the way for the loss of natural mineral and labor resources. Abrasion and corrosion shall be characterized as an economic fact due to decrease the industrial productivity and economic growth. In this study; behaviour of St 44-2 steel which was exposed to abrasion and corrosion conditions had been examined, and then the most appropriate chemical coating type was researched in order to increase the resistance of the material. After various applications; the effect of chamical coating on abrasion and corrosion features of steel was observed and compared with each other by environmental and mechanical tests. As a result of these tests on different types of coated St 44-2 steel; hard chrome coating and electroless nickel coating showed behaviour of high abrasion and corrosion resitance respectively. Outside of these two kinds of coatings were determined that they weren't economic in order to obtain high abrasion and corrosion resitance. Moreover; application of hard chrome coating on electroless nickel coating showed both high abrasion resistance and high corrosion resistance.
