A research on the transformation of the peddling profession: The case of Malatya Darende

This study focuses on the peddling profession, which is intensely practiced in Darende; In the theoretical level, he looks at it in the context of occupational sociology and in the application part in terms of sociology of culture. The basic concepts of professional sociology and the peddling profession, which is considered as a traditional profession, are discussed. The adventure of the peddling profession from the past to the present has been tried to be understood. While doing this, globalization, industrialization and technological innovations, which are considered as professional transformation factors, played an important role in the study as central concepts. In Darende, which is one of the important centers of the peddling profession, in-depth interview technique was used with 13 peddlers in Darende center to reveal the intricacies of the profession, to reveal the importance of the profession in terms of social memory and language, and finally to reveal the parameters in the transformation of the peddling profession. A total of 13 question guides consisting of 3 themes to be directed to peddlers were used in the study. Within the scope of the research, it has been tried to determine how the peddlers define the peddling profession, understand the importance of the hazeynce language they use in the practice of the profession, and how the peddling profession has transformed from 'mobile itinerary' to a profession that has started to be done in a fixed shop.
