Abstract (EN)

In the recent years, nano compositions have been desirable for researchers due to their physical characteristics and their application areas. There is a growing tendency for investigation of nanotubes, mainly because of their properties like being a catalyst, having a high porosity and surface area that are essential for high activity demand in new applications such as storage and evacuation systems. Because of their unusual morphologies, metal oxide nanotubes show direction dependent properties (mechanical, electrical, optical, etc.). In addition, they show better photocatalytic and antibacterial effects than those of traditional nanoparticles due to their high surface areas arising from their sizes below microns and being in proper morphologies. In this thesis TiO2, ZnO nano powders were synthesized by the sol gel method whereas TiO2, ZnO and CuO metal oxide nanotubes were synthesized by the hydrothermal method. The obtained nanotubes were characterized with the aid of TEM, SEM and XRD analyses. Their colloidal suspensions were prepared and covered on a three dimensional metallic filter with the electrophoretic deposition method, and finally their antibacterial properties were investigated.
